Oscar de la Renta taps into whatever sense of downtown cool he’s secretly hiding under his nest of Upper East Side lady-dom with this Ikat Ballerina. True blue: Yes. And so fresh looking underneath a long, formal wedding gown.

If Miuccia Prada says fishing waders are important…well, then they are. But how to wear them? Er, show your naturist husband-to-be how much you really care and agree to the camping honeymoon he’s been pushing for. But only is he supplies the Prada.

These Marc Jacobs shoes are $1695. They are also fabulous. And by fabulous I mean insane. Which is why they are Marc Jacobs. And $1695.

My latest blue shoe love, also from Moschino Cheap and Chic. Because while tie-dyed t-shirts are totally fifth grade, a tie-dyed heel is totally…graduate school? Analogies fail: This shoe rocks.

A brilliant bride friend of mine is currently in the process of seeking a show perfect for vow-saying and move-busting equally. And in peacock blue, no less. I’m mad for a bright, colorful shoe — especially on a bride! — and think this is a lovely way to play into the whole “something blue” idea without, well, seeming like you’re trying. (Also, snaps to brilliant friend’s brilliant groom, who is seeking a subtly-coordinating tie.) She’ll be wearing her mom’s wedding dress (which was, in turn, her mom’s aunt’s dress) — it’s 1950’s fabulous, with some slight tweaks to jazz it up to present-day style standards. Her only request? “A not too-high heel, please!” So with that, I suggest the following, bold and beautiful all:

Does the black tie-appropriate shoe with a heel lower than 2-inches exist? Oh, yes, dear readers, it does. And it’s called the luxury flat.

Think Sofia Coppola at the Oscars. Your completed look will come across as undeniably chic in a most unexpected way. And best of all, your tootsies will be comfy cozy all night long. Choose a pair with extra special detailing to keep you (and your beautiful dress) looking equally extra special.

I never really got the whole thing about wearing white shoes on your wedding day, even if you’re kickin’ it old school and wearing virginal white. First off, who wears white shoes? But more importantly, shoes are the time to add a little fun to any outfit — so why cheat yourself of the opportunity on the day when you get to play dress-up in the biggest way? And yet — Grandma will be in attendance. (See previous post.) Compromise is on the way: Putty-colored shoes are so fresh and modern, yet conservative enough to wear at even the most traditional events. These Manolo Blahniks are sexy yet classy and beckon forth all the things that future classics are made of.
